Job Overview
The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a regular full-time Trees, Trails and Horticulture Superintendent to join our team of professionals in the Public Works Division, Parks Operations Department. Reporting to the Manager, Parks Operations, in this Exempt position you will perform complex technical work related to a variety of operational parks utility functions. 

Responsibilities
As a key member of the Parks Operations team, you will assist in all aspects of parks operations. The Trees, Trails and Horticulture Superintendent will supervise and manage staff and participate in operational planning. You will lead and assess the work of others, ensure that work is within established guidelines and liaise with other agencies, developers, consultants and the general public. You will draft specifications, terms of reference, safe work procedures, maintenance and contract documents. This position is a resource for the department and assists in recruitment, employee training and work performance evaluations. Qualified candidates will be detailed-oriented with a range of knowledge and experience in horticulture, trails and naturals areas, parks, greenways and conservation areas. 

Qualifications
Your education will include a bachelor’s degree and/or diploma in a related discipline (Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Horticulture, Arboriculture), plus a minimum of five years related experience in a municipal parks and open space environment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered. You have working knowledge of parks and open space principles, terminology, materials, equipment and practices as applied to the various areas of the parks operations and knowledge of applicable municipal, provincial and federal regulations and bylaws. This position requires knowledge of occupational hazards, safety regulations, labour relations contracts, administration and recruitment processes.

Required Certifications/Licenses 
Candidates must have the following valid and current certifications/licenses (must be valid at the time the posting closes) and these must be attached with your application. 

  • BC Class 5 (full privilege) Driver’s License. You must include with your application a current Personal Driving Record (select the 5-year option if obtaining online) that has been obtained within 6 months of the closing date. To obtain a copy of your Personal Driving Record, please contact ICBC directly or the driving authority where you reside. Please note that a copy of your Driver’s License and the Driver Factor Report will not be accepted.
  • Certification or the ability to obtain certification as an Arborist with the International Society of Arborists (ISA)
  • Certifications or the ability to obtain International Society of Arborists – Tree Risk Assessment Qualification
